Reviewing and modernising the EU copyright legislative framework by 2015, these are the stated objectives set by the European Commission through its declaration of 12 December 2012 (*).
The effort focuses on the territoriality in the Internal Market, the harmonisation, the limitations and exceptions to copyright in the digital age, the fragmentation of the EU copyright market, as well as the effective recognition and remuneration of rights holder.
For this purpose, the Commission recently launched a public consultation with the different sectors of the creative industries that received some 10,000 responses. A summary will be published soon.
The Commission’s decision whether to table the resulting legislative reform proposals is expected in the next months.
